We need your help!Do you have some spare time? Would you like to contribute to the Chailey Bonfire Society, then why not join our friendly society of members and volunteers. We are always on the look out for new members or people who can spare some time to help with our fund raising events and firework evening. Chailey Bonfire Society exists for three main activities: - To organise the Chailey village firework celebrations, with the focus on the firework display being for children.
- To hold a Christmas Lunch and Party for the senior citizens of the area.
- To arrange quality fund raising events to finance the firework display and Christmas party.
We don't have a large amount of members and totally rely on fund raising activities to fund our events. The people currently involved fall into four main categories although most of our committee members spread themselves across all of them. | 1. | Preparing the Annual Firework Celebrations. (Assistance required from August to November). We always require many active and practical people to help with the firework event. | a. | Firework Display. (August to November) Practical people with creative skills and a sound understanding of explosives. We have three members who handle this and they cope well but help appreciated. | | b. | Procession and Marshalling (October to November) Active people with good organisational skills. We always need more help in this area. | | c. | Refreshments (Assisting in November) People with catering experience and dealing with the public. Additional help again always appreciated in this area. | | | | | | 2. | Senior Citizens Annual Christmas Party (Assistance required for December). In all of the below areas we have a good team established but again additional help is always appreciated. | a. | Cooking the food. | | b. | Serving the food. | | c. | Transporting the guests. | | d. | Assisting with the entertainment. | | | | | | 3. | Fund Raising Events. (Assistance required all year round). We run a wide range of events in the village and because of the diversity of the different events we require all types of people who are prepared to give some time and assist us with these events. Any ideas for events and ways to raise money for the society always welcome. | a. | Events cover a wide area, some of which are: Pub Quiz's, Duck Race, The 100 Club, Theme Evenings, Scalectrix Races, Horse Racing, Summer Ball, Hog Roast, Summer Barbeque, Jumble Sales, etc, etc.... | | | | | | 4. | Administrative Support. (Assistance required all year round). | a. | Bonfire meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, usually in a pub somewhere. | | b. | Financial Support. Arguably this is covered but the current incumbent is overstretched with other commitments, difficult to deal with and can be a complete pain. Anyone interested in assisting in this area would always be appreciated. | | c. | Secretary. Required to attend all meetings, keep brief but accurate notes, circulate agendas and minutes to the committee (electronically), write letters of thanks and requests as required and communicate with other organisations and authorities as agreed at committee meetings. | | So now you know a bit about what we need to ensure that the bonfire society continues to thrive.
