The Chailey Link Walk

"To celebrate the Millennium the residents of Chailey laid out a way marked circular walk, linking the North and South of the village. The walk meanders through contrasting habitats of farmland, heath land and ancient woodland - with views of the downs."

In association with the Millennium Project and the walk committee, the Chailey Link Walk is held every May Bank Holiday (First Monday in May) to raise money for the Chailey Bonfire Society and a charity of your choice. Past events have raised funds for the Bonfire Society, Chailey Youth Group, St. Peter's Church and CHEC (Chailey Heritage Enterprise Centre).

The preferred starting point is the King's Head pub car park, but you can enter the walk at any point and finishes back at the Kings Head after covering a distance of approximately 6.5 miles. After the walk we will be having refreshments and a BBQ, and any donations received for the food and refreshments will be split between the Bonfire Society and CHEC.

Chailey Link Route: The following is a brief overview of the route. Maps and full details will also be available on the day or you can pick up a copy of the Chailey Link Walk brochure in the local pubs and shops. The route covers approximately 6.5 miles and you should allow 3 to 4 hours walking time.

Heading South West from the King's head pub car park across the memorial grounds towards Beggars Wood Road. After crossing the road continue on the sometimes muddy footpath to Flint Cottage. With Flint Cottage on your right head towards Bineham Wood keeping the woods on your left. Upon leaving the woods the walk continues between Cottage Wood, Eelsash Wood, Long Wood and through The Hooke eventually bringing you out at Mill Lane.

From Mill Lane we head East towards the Brick Works where we now start the trek North back to the King's head through Marstakes Common and past Furzeley Farm, up Cinder Hill towards Coppards Bridge and finally through North Hanger Wood and back to the King's Head for well deserved refreshments and a delicious barbeque.
